Lessons from the Land of Limbo

origin_9404716806

Limbo- an uncertain period of awaiting a decision or resolution; an intermediate state or condition.

I’ll be honest, I am not one who likes to wait. I’ll make the leap and say, you don’t like waiting either. I am pretty sure, the majority of us, don’t love waiting. Why do you think that is?

One reason may be that we live in days of pro-active planning . We have the luxury, time and means to plan our days fairly well. The question is, what do we do when we are called to wait? What is our response in waiting?

Seasons of waiting are not often easy.

Thankful For Roads Not Taken-His Will Prevails

IMG_6826-001
At each crossroad in life, there is a road chosen and a road not taken. Sometimes we actually do the choosing and sometimes the way is chosen for us. I am thankful that although I have turned down a few roads that were rocky, in the end God smoothed the path and brought me to the next pass, better able to discern His direction and to trust Him better, either way. All roads bring us closer to Him who guides our path. I am grateful for His faithfulness; thankful to know He is Sovereign over all my paths.

Thank you Lord:

Thankful to Find the Wow in Everyday

IMG_6726

Raising my voice, or pressing the keypad seems a bit more accurate, with you my 5 Minutes for Faith Friends, to share 5 Thanksgivings today. So, whatever you want to call the good things that come your way, that sometimes get taken take for granted, missed in the bustle of the day; whether you see them as gifts, blessings or graces- acknowledge them.

I am convinced our God not only loves to gift us daily with surprises along the way, but that He is uniquely creative in his ability to minister powerfully to our deepest needs for beauty, rest, peace and faith.

Facing Our Fears With Faith

origin_5829877149

Sweet October, how I adore thee, with orange themed decor, hot cider and more, pumpkins galore,  goblins at my door, and the leaves twirling down from the trees. Sweet October, I adore thee.

Oh, October! How I abhor you, with your trick or treat and “smell my feet”, goblins and fears, increased nightmares, endless sweets and scares, such a mixed brew, of what will we do. Oh, October, I  abhor you.

I wrote this silly little poem, as I contemplated my love-hate relationship with what I call, the season of scary. Fall and Winter are  my favorite times of the year, so truly I do love the months October through February most.

A Trapped Bird finds Freedom (Through Intercessory Prayer)

origin_5842430442

Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. 1 Peter 5:9

It was an early August morning when I approached the bird feeder. Quiet still hung heavy over our little backyard, like dawn’s own quilt. I padded across the yard. Dew kissed grass, sun breaking beyond the trees, almost, but with pause, as if waiting for the precise moment to burst forth from hiding. I glance about as I carry the pitcher of seeds. I’m always looking for the eyes that watch me, as they await their breakfast.

How to Satisfy Your Thirst

With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. ~Isaiah 12:3

In a recent attempt to draw closer to the Lord in prayer through fasting, I pondered the most basic of all needs.

Our need for water.

It seems obvious that we need water, of course. And who can argue with the reality that our body is made up of 60-75% water.

Roughly 70% of the Earth’s surface is covered with water. Water is vital to every living form of life.

Water is needful for our survival. Take away water completely and you have roughly 3 days to live, because the physiological functions of your organs will fail.

Savor the Good

Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong. Let all that you do be done with love. ~1 Corinthians 16:13-14

Some days are just meant to be lived, without fanfare. Accepted graciously, quietly and humbly. On our recent family vacation, I found myself faced with some of the same obstacles and challenges I was hoping to escape. Our vacation was one year in the making and anticipating. Big plans each one of us carried along within, of how the week would go. It’s funny, we as moms and women are so sensitive to those around us. It’s in our genetic code, I believe.
