Some days, I don’t even know where to begin. My vision blurs and senses dull as I look at the pages scrawled with prayer requests. The very ones I have penned for those He has called me to love. It seems so overwhelming.
There’s health concerns.
Financial struggles.
Unnecessary trials.
Unknown journeys.
Difficult decisions.
And I want to bring them all to the Cross and leave them in His capable hands. Yet, often, I don’t know how to pray.
Lately, I’ve simply striven to seek James’ advice:
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

We live in interesting and sometimes scary times. With so many confusing world events, particularly in the Middle East, I can’t help but think about some of the prophecy in Revelation. I try not to think too much about it since it’s so hard for to understand, but there are a handful of things in that magnificent book that I can grasp.
I love what John recorded about the beings in the throne room of God. Day and night they never stop saying:

Think about that for a minute. They NEVER STOP. Praise rings in the heavenlies day and night, 24/7.

Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. 1 Peter 5:9
It was an early August morning when I approached the bird feeder. Quiet still hung heavy over our little backyard, like dawn’s own quilt. I padded across the yard. Dew kissed grass, sun breaking beyond the trees, almost, but with pause, as if waiting for the precise moment to burst forth from hiding. I glance about as I carry the pitcher of seeds. I’m always looking for the eyes that watch me, as they await their breakfast.

Do you have a story to tell?
Did God get you through the day without losing it as the kids ran circles around your ankles?
Did He deliver you from a problem that’s bothered you for as long as you can remember?
Did you have an amazing God moment at the grocery store or while you were waiting for a doctor’s appointment?
Did He give you strength to fight a battle you were sure would be too difficult to handle?
We’re looking for guest writers.
We want to hear your story.
We strengthen each other when we share what God is doing in our lives.

There’s no place like home.
Isn’t it great to be one of the family? There’s a warm feeling of security when you know you belong. You have a key to the door and you come right in because you live there. Right?
When you’re part of the family, you can help yourself to whatever is in the refrigerator, unless of course, someone has put an “Eat this and you will die!” note on the banana pudding. As a family member, your picture hangs on the wall. You can snuggle up on the couch and put your feet on the coffee table.

Last month, here on 5 Minutes for Faith, I wrote about the day God stopped me in my tracks. He reminded me that no matter what I think I know, only He knows the full and complete picture of His plans.
That same day, although I don’t remember what I was reading at the time, this verse was put in front of me.
God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us.

I look down at my “to do” list and it is daunting. Managing a family of 7, partnering with my husband in ministry, and the trials of normal life makes it seem that the “to do” list gets longer as the day goes on instead of shorter. I get caught up in running too and fro in the tyranny of the urgent. I easily lose perspective on what is important – what is eternal – in my continual strife to “keep up.”
Do you find yourself feeling that way? Do you find the demands of life so pressing that it is hard to pull back and see the larger picture?

Sometimes it can be hard to slow down. To be still. To cherish the moments in front of us as the gifts that they are.
Take a minute and be encouraged by the moment I almost missed, moms.
And in your slowing down, I hope that you not only find quiet joy in your journey as a mom, I pray you hear God’s voice like never before…
