Ticker Tape Thoughts

 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5

I awakened this morning with the title of this post running through my mind. What if the first time you had a thought, it was just that . . . a thought? The second time you thought it, you were granted a mulligan by God’s grace. But if you continued spinning it around in your head, it appeared across your forehead in ticker tape format. Right there for everyone to see!

Putting Aside My Prison Clothes


2 Kings 25: 27-30

27 In the thirty-seventh year of the exile of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the year Evil-Merodach [a] became king of Babylon, he released Jehoiachin from prison on the twenty-seventh day of the twelfth month. 28 He spoke kindly to him and gave him a seat of honor higher than those of the other kings who were with him in Babylon. 29 So Jehoiachin put aside his prison clothes and for the rest of his life ate regularly at the king’s table. 30 Day by day the king gave Jehoiachin a regular allowance as long as he lived.

Bloom Where You’re NOT Planted

Maybe it’s the newly-hatched summer, but in one week I heard the phrase “Bloom where you’re planted,” from 3 different people in 3 different contexts. Each was referring to not waiting for the perfect set of circumstances; the point is to do the best you can where you are in this moment. I remember thinking sometimes that’s easier said than done.

Earlier this spring I went out on the back porch and saw this:

Last fall these bulbs were sitting perilously close to the surface, in danger of becoming a mid-winter snack for the fat, scavenging squirrels that have the run of the neighborhood.

Serving An Unchanging God

Awhile back I was really frustrated with my husband. We were outside in the yard and I honestly cannot remember what I was mad at him about (I’m sure it was huge at the time, but probably petty in the big scheme of things) but I said, “You know you are a lot like God.” He looked at me and I could tell he was kind of puffed up at the thought of being like God. I said, “Yeah, you are a lot like God because you never change!” We laugh at this moment now, but at that point I was not laughing.
