There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1
Have you ever shaken a bottle of something to make what’s inside come out faster? You know… the shampoo bottle, the ketchup bottle, or the squeezable jelly bottle. Sometimes when you shake the contents of a bottle to the opening, you get what’s inside to move faster.
This morning my daughter and I were in the bathroom getting dressed for school. We have those two minute sand timers for the kids to use while brushing their teeth so they know exactly how long to brush.

My son is reading Charlotte’s Web at school. As a class project, he brought home an egg to take care of for a week, just as Wilbur took care of Charlotte’s egg. He has to write in a journal each day about the adventures he has with the egg. He has named it, and he can read to it, wash it, play with it, and decorate or dress it. He is not supposed to leave it alone. He can take it back and forth to school with him or get a baby sitter. Spencer’s egg’s name is Kirby.
Today, a tragedy occurred.

My five-year-old daughter has quite a bit of energy. In fact, she almost never sits still. She is not the type to cuddle up on the couch and snuggle. She would much rather be running around the house or the yard. Many days I find myself saying to her, “would you please be still, just for a few minutes!” My husband says she’s just like me. She always has to be doing something.
A few days ago, she woke up early and came to my bedroom. I invited her to climb into my bed to snuggle. To my surprise, she did.

I’ve had multiplication on the brain recently, maybe because my third grader has been trying really hard to learn his times tables. Maybe because I’ve been trying really hard to learn God’s times tables. Let me explain.
Have you ever fallen asleep for just a short time and when you woke up felt as though you had slept the entire night? A few nights ago I was desperate for sleep. My kids had been sick, I had been sick, even our dog had been sick. I had been giving up valuable sleep time to take care of my family. I was running on empty and in much need of rest.

I hate to admit it, but I come from a long line of “worriers.” My grandmother is famous for worrying.
When my husband and I went on our honeymoon, we left our car at her house. She asked for the keys so in case a storm came up and lightning hit the house and it caught on fire, she could move the car. She says “you never know what might happen.”
I know… it seems ridiculous. She lets her imagination run wild. She comes up with all sorts of worse case scenarios. But if we are honest, how many of us spend precious moments of our lives worrying about what might happen?

Have you joined yet? Do you have a Facebook account? Over the holidays, I finally gave in and created one. It seemed everywhere I turned; people were talking about their friends on Facebook. I guess I succumbed to the peer pressure. I must admit it is pretty addicting, even more so than blogging. The first few days, I spent hours searching for names of old friends I hadn’t seen in years. It was really a rush when I would find them. Seeing how much they had changed and all they had accomplished was really fun.
I began to type in the names of everyone I knew, from friends in kindergarten, to high school, to college, to my first job.

Times are hard for everyone. Evil is everywhere. Crime is rampant. The economy is falling apart. People are losing jobs. I turn on the news and am overwhelmed with the stories I see reported. And I don’t even have to go to the television to know people are facing difficult situations. I have friends with marriages falling apart, husbands who have lost jobs, children who are facing sickness; friends who are facing depression, the loss of a spouse, bankruptcy. We have faced our own share of problems recently with my son’s health. On the surface it seems there is much reason to lament and cry out that God doesn’t care; He’s not really in control of things or He wouldn’t allow such heartache.

I would venture to guess not many of us like to wait for anything. Most of us don’t like waiting in line at Wal-Mart, waiting at the doctor’s office, and we certainly don’t like waiting on God.
I’ve done my share of waiting this past week – on doctors and on God. My son has been in the hospital for testing to determine if he is a candidate for epilepsy brain surgery. The testing required that he have a seizure while hooked to an EEG machine.
We waited all week for him to have a seizure. We prayed for him to have one.
