Waiting on God

I would venture to guess not many of us like to wait for anything. Most of us don’t like waiting in line at Wal-Mart, waiting at the doctor’s office, and we certainly don’t like waiting on God.

I’ve done my share of waiting this past week – on doctors and on God. My son has been in the hospital for testing to determine if he is a candidate for epilepsy brain surgery. The testing required that he have a seizure while hooked to an EEG machine.

We waited all week for him to have a seizure. We prayed for him to have one. The hours seemed to drag by. Then he finally had a seizure, only the seizure wouldn’t stop. It lasted an hour and a half. We kept waiting on it to stop. We kept praying for it to stop. The time again seemed to drag by. Waiting and praying. Praying and waiting.

What happens when we wait on God and add prayer to the wait? I went looking for scripture and sermons that addressed this topic. What I found was this.

While we are waiting, God strengthens us.

But those who wait upon the Lord will find new strength. Isaiah 40:31

God blesses us.

For the LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him! Isaiah 30:18

And lastly, God acts on our behalf.

Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for him. Isaiah 64:4

Waiting isn’t fun. I often find myself crying out to God, “Hurry up already and do something.” He often whispers back. “Hurry up and wait.” I am a girl who likes to get things done and move on, but I am also a girl who desperately needs some strengthening, needs some blessings and needs God to act on my behalf. So I will wait. I will wait on the One who allows things to happen in His perfect timing.

I say to myself, “The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD. Lamentations 3:24-26

Oh wow, I feel led to pray for you and your family, and I will do so. I’m all too familiar with this type of waiting, and I agree, it strengthens us in ways we would never have experienced otherwise. May the Lord overwhelm you with supernatural peace as you wait on Him.

This is such a great reminder. I’ve had many days of waiting. Some of those days are really long. Thanks for the reminders!

I will be praying for you & your son for I know how difficult it can be. My mother just had her epileptic brain surgery in Canada which was a great success. It was a long journey for her, but with many prayers & God’s grace she pulled through & doing great! I wish the same for your son. Believe & God Bless!!
