Springtime Blessings

Recently we have had birds try to build a nest in the wreath hanging on our front door. Each time I open the door there are tiny twigs on the porch from their failed attempts.

This reminded me of an experience we had a few years ago when our determined feathered friends were more successful. Day after day I would remove partially constructed nests only to open the door to new ones again and again and again.

Well, you can see who won! One beautiful morning, I opened the front door and found a completed nest and these three little eggs. Wow, talk about getting the job done!

I wonder how often I am deliberate about finishing the job God has for me. I can so quickly and easily become discouraged, disappointed, and deterred by fear.

Fear that I might . . . fail, look foolish, disappoint my friends and family or even the Lord.

Fear that the job . . . won’t be good enough, isn’t really in God’s plan for me, or would be better done by someone else.

Don’t be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Instead, fear the one who can destroy both body and soul in hell. Aren’t two sparrows sold for a penny? Not one of them will fall to the ground without your Father’s permission. Every hair on your head has been counted. Don’t be afraid! You are worth more than many sparrows. Matthew 19:28-30 (GWT)

Jesus said, “Don’t be afraid!” I am called to trust and obey. He promised that He will never leave me nor forsake me. He promised that the Father is sovereign.

Surrounded by His presence I am free to do whatever it is He has called me to do, to the best of my ability and to the glory of His holy name.

Loved this post Deb. How often I want to give up sometimes, just before the breakthrough. Thank you for the reminder to never give up. God has good things on the horizon.

God’s creatures can teach us so much, can’t they? I often get that Holy Spirit nudge telling me to pay closer attention to their simple obedience in doing what they were created to do. How I long for that simple obedience myself. Thanks Barbie!!

I loved this post, Deb! I actually thought I had already left you a comment! I must have been in a hurry that morning. 🙂

But I want you to know it has stuck with me. I have continued to think about your devotion. God knows I so often need to be reminded not to let fear and doubts cause me to give up.

And with a hanging basket on my front porch with little birdies determined to build a nest in it, I will continue to be encouraged as I watch their determination. 🙂

    Blessings,
    K
