Just a Baby

No matter how many babies I have had, the awesome wonder of that tiny little creature never ceases to amaze me. I am finding though that there are many who have either forgotten the “reason for the season” or wonder what all the hype is really about.

It was only a little baby, born in the lowliest of circumstances, how can that affect me? Well, there are many stories and songs that explain all that far better than I ever could, so let me just say that Jesus birth means LIFE for you and me!

She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins. – Matthew 1:21

This is a wonderful and joyful season for most of us. A season to be profoundly grateful for the many gifts we have been given. I know this and try live daily with an “attitude of gratitude”, I realize how much I have been given that I don’t really deserve.

Imagine my shock when I recently realized that I have been caught up in the gifts and busy-ness of the season. I forget to stop, take a breath and keep my priorities straight. Worse, I’m forgetting to remind my children what Christmas is all about.

So as we continue through this season I am making an effort to add more of Jesus into our activities, to teach my children truth and gratitude.

Do you have any traditions that help your family remember to keep Jesus in the center of your Christmas celebrations?

we are still working on teaching our kids the REAL reason for Christmas. We have a nativity scene that I have been using as a visual aid because my boys learn hands-on better than just me telling them. So they pick up various characters and tell me who they are (this is baby Jesus, this is Mary Jesus’ mommy etc). It has created decent conversation too. But honestly? I am pretty sure they are confused about how Santa fits in to it all and for some odd reason I am reluctant to give the Santa myth up. I just loved believing in Santa as a child. I don’t know.
