Clinging to A Promise

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11)

For my husband and I, major decisions are not quickly made. We prayerfully place each big decision before the feet of God trusting that He will guide us – heart, mind and spirit. We carefully weigh the pros and cons, and any potential problems are discussed at length.

We have a lot of little people to consider so there’s much at stake. As you can imagine, this process can take a while, but unless we feel very sure that it is the direction God is leading we don’t want to continue on … been there, done that, didn’t care much for the results.

A little over three years ago, the house we owned sold and we hadn’t yet found one to purchase. As a result, we ended up living in a 30 foot travel trailer for 3 months with 4 children … through the holidays.

I was desperately clinging to God and the knowledge that He knew what was in store for us. A house was provided, and though it wasn’t what we expected we knew He had been guiding us through the path we were on regardless of the difficulties along the way. With a deeper sense of trust in Him we continued on.

Now as we feel led to begin the search for a house that’s just a little bigger to help accomodate our now larger brood of 6 boys, I’m again clinging to the promise that He knows why we were put here even if I’m still not sure. It is a wonderful feeling to know that He is in charge and I don’t have to know the details.

I have been asked countless times how on earth I stay sane with 6 children in my teeny tiny house. My answer? My sanity is questionable, but without God I would have nothing. He’s the glue, the joy, the strength and the purpose for each and every day.

I’m so very thankful for the many promises He offers us! I cling to them with all my might and try to never take them for granted.

Speaking of housing, we are in a similar boat. My work dried up, we are a month behind in everything, including the loan on my work truck. No cashflow to do work, but I need to do work to get cashflow. My wife and I have been interceding before the Lord, and you might say we are certainly clinging to his promises.
One thing we know for sure is that God IS faithful and He WILL see us through. He however, does not always give us the “details” as much as we would like.
Faye and I also have the same sentiment – “I cling to them with all my might and try to never take them for granted.”

This was great! Without God, we’d all be a little crazy!

    Shera,
This is one of my absolute favorite verses, and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten comfort and reassurance from it. Thanks for the awesome reminder!

Wonderful post, Shera. I don’t have 6 boys. But we do live in a small apartment with two kids and a dog. And it gets tight, but God gives us spacious places in different ways.

God’s promises are such a solid rock to cling to! (and they sure do help in the sanity department!) LoL. Clinging and trusting–a good place to be.
