“Safe People”

A group of friends and I have been studying a book titled, Safe People, written by Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend. The first two sentences on the back cover read as follows: “The wounds inflicted by an “unsafe” person can go deep. If you’ve ever been in a relationship where you were used, abused, or abandoned, then Safe People is for you.”

Who hasn’t been in at least one unsafe relationship? Some of us have found ourselves drawn into painful relationships many more times than we would like to admit. Whether our relationship is with a family member or friend, knowing the best ways to deal with the people around us is one of this life’s greatest challenges.

An Unplanned Day

The past weekend didn’t turn out exactly the way I had planned. I was looking forward to celebrating the holiday with a little rest and relaxation. I had planned and prepared not to do a thing. I was in the middle of a good book. We had planned simple meals. I couldn’t wait!!

How are you when your plans don’t happen as you intended? I can have a variety of reactions, but most of them I would prefer not to share. Anyway, I knew that my laptop keyboard was frozen on Friday, but decided that any attention it needed could wait until this week.

A Miracle

Last time I shared with you that the Lord has faithfully held our family through some difficult storms. I also promised to share some specifics with you, so today I would like to tell you about one with a happy ending. Like so many of you, we still have ongoing prayers where we continue to wait on the Lord’s timing for happy endings ….

About three years ago, my husband became very ill with symptoms like those for congestive heart failure. He had been a faithful exerciser for twenty five years, and other than a very bad virus just a couple of months earlier he had been the picture of health.

Storms

Have you ever been in a situation where you looked at the potential outcomes for your circumstances, and there wasn’t one that looked like a happy ending? You have spun and turned the facts every possible way, and found yourself left with a knot in the pit of your stomach.

Maybe your child was in trouble at school or with the law and your heart was broken. You were betrayed by someone you trusted, and you wonder how you will ever trust again. Your husband came home and said that he doesn’t think he loves you anymore, and left you standing there wondering how in the world that happened.
