Just a Baby

No matter how many babies I have had, the awesome wonder of that tiny little creature never ceases to amaze me. I am finding though that there are many who have either forgotten the “reason for the season” or wonder what all the hype is really about.

It was only a little baby, born in the lowliest of circumstances, how can that affect me? Well, there are many stories and songs that explain all that far better than I ever could, so let me just say that Jesus birth means LIFE for you and me!

She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.

Celebrating Life!

Sometimes it’s difficult for me to notice the brand new life in things around me. I forget look at my life with fresh eyes each day. These are ongoing challenges of mine … looking for the fresh, new and positive in daily life as well as the people and things around me.

I am reminded of a popular verse; Lamentations 3:21-23

“Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

Isn’t it amazing how such a refreshing and uplifting verse comes from a book named “Lamentations”?

Longing for Quiet

Have you ever had a day where everything seems particularly loud? The kids’ voices, radio, washing machine, dishwasher and television all seem to about ten decibels louder than any other day?!

I think as a mom we’re simply going to encounter days like that sometimes. But, I almost think the bigger question is…how do I react to everyone around me on a day like that?

Ouch! I don’t know that I want to honestly answer that question, because the answer may not be nearly as pleasant as I wish it was!

So often I feel like I have to be perfect, but I really never react the way I wish I had looking back.

Unfailing Compassion

Have you ever had a truly rotten day? The kind of day where absolutely nothing goes right. The kids are whining, there’s no more milk (you spilled it all over the kitchen floor) you’re out of bread . . . The car won’t start, then when you finally get on the road you look at the gas gauge and it’s on “E” . . . The list goes on and on for the rest of the day.

During a day like this, many of us find ourselves wishing we could start over. We’ve all had these days, but compared to the events in Lamentations, a day like I described looks like a walk in the park.

For God So Loved the World

John 3:16 is a verse that many of us learned as toddlers, to be forever deeply etched in our minds. I sometimes wonder if it is possible that patients with memory loss are inexplicably still able to quote this verse verbatim years later.

Because of it’s frequency of use, I suddenly found that I had become bored with this verse. No longer reveling in the amazing truth it contains, no longer remembering the deeper meaning – complacency had set in.

But for some reason it entered my mind today and I could not ignore it and once again found myself in awe of the love of God.

Praying for Children

One of the ministries that has always been part of Faith Lifts is prayer for children who have long term illnesses and their families. I’m so thankful that this is something that many of our readers have taken upon themselves personally, grabbing a button for their own blog’s sidebar and actively praying for a particular child from our Faithful Prayers for Children page.

Blessing A Day

Today I went to check email as usual and found a very pleasant surprise waiting for me. An aquaintance had sent me a little note saying that she was thinking of and praying for me. Her email also contained the verses found in Colossians 1:9-12.

For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.
