It’s All In The Plan

I read an article this week that made me think about plans…

The article was about a man who was in the process of remodeling his bathroom. He’d drawn up a plan for the remodel, but halfway through his project, he decided to stray from the plan and get creative so he could make use of some extra tile.

It was only after he was done doing the extra tile work that he realized, because he’d deviated from the plan, the measurements for his tub had gotten thrown-off. As a result, he was at a standstill and was unable to finish his project as he’d hoped.

And it made me think, that’s how life is sometimes…

God has a plan for us:

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”

But maybe, somewhere along the way, we begin to doubt.

Or we get impatient waiting for the plan to unfold.

Maybe we even think if we do things our own way, things will turn out better.

So, like that man in the article, we decide to get creative.

And we deviate from the plan.

I look at my own life and all the times I’ve gone off in my own direction, often with good intentions, forgetting about what God’s plan might be. And I picture God watching me during those times, smiling and shaking His head, because He knows what will happen as a result. I picture him looking at my ‘remodel’ and gently saying, “Genny, why aren’t you trusting me?”

And when I finally stop and listen for His voice, that’s when I realize I’ve gotten off-track.

But the good news is, even when that happens–whether it’s a small ‘blip’, or a major derailing–God promises:

“He who began a good work in you will complete it.” Philippians 1:6

He gets us back on track.

I know it may seem corny to compare the plans for our lives to a remodel, but, really, we’re all works-in-progress. The point is remembering that there is a plan for each of us. And when we remember thatwhen we draw close to God and rely on Him–we can experience less frustration and less ‘standstills’ in this awesome “project” of life.

What about you?

Are you following God’s plan for your “remodel”?

I was led to this blog by my feed reader.

    That was a nice post!

The comparison between plans for our lives and a remodel is not at all corny. In fact I find it uniquely true.

I wish I could know what God’s plan for me is…

Oh, thank you so much for posting this. It was a very timely reminder for me right now. I have been doing some impatient fussing about not being able to finish some education and business goals lately while chasing around my two year old at home. God has always been faithful in completing what He has started in my life, I am working on trusting His timing… Blessings, Jen

I’m so glad Jesus was a carpenter by trade. He knows all about building plans. Praying I will allow Him to build into my life all that He desires. His blueprints are perfect for my life.

Just wanted to stop by and say ‘hi’. I think of you often. Trust your manuscript is coming along and that you’re accomplishing all that God desires of you.

    Blessings,
    Joy
