Number My Days

“Show me the number of my days.” Psalm 39:4-7

I think it’s safe to say that nobody likes to contemplate the number of days they might have left on this earth. Especially at this time of year, with a new year beginning, filled with hope and promise.

But if we can look at the year ahead with that prayer from Psalms in our hearts, how much more can God do with each day? Each hour, even?

Remembering how precious time is can truly help us to live our lives to the fullest. If we keep that in mind, and the fact that God put each of us here for a reason, how much more purposeful would our decisions, activities, and priorities be?

As I look to 2009 and all the dreams and goals I want to fill it with, I want to remember God’s plans, too.

Because I don’t want to miss what He has for me in the year ahead–whether it’s a good laugh with my kids, a romantic moment with my husband, or even a good cry. I don’t want to miss any assignments, either, like an article I’m supposed to write, or a friend I’m supposed to visit, or a card I’m supposed to send.

If there’s someone I’m supposed to call, I want to make sure I call.

If there’s a need I’m supposed to fill, I want to make sure I fill it.

If I’m working on something, but God wants me to be doing something else, I want to make sure I shift my focus.

When I feel that ‘nudging’ that He often gives–the nudging that is sometimes is easy to overlook–I want to listen. Even if it means changing my schedule. Or readjusting my plans. Or reexamining my dreams.

Because life is precious and time passes quickly.

And if we open our hearts to what God has in store for us, each day and each year can bring more than we ever imagined.

    Hello Genny
I hope you don’t get tried of my comments, but I enjoy your sharing from your heart what God is giving you. This post today has really touched my heart, for I so want to be more obedient to my Father. And like you said those Nudges I am praying for God to help me fall into the Spirit’s arms and walk this walk for him.And as God continues to Nudge I’m following, for we don’t know who God has for us to bless.Love in Christ

Awesome topic, Genny! I completely agree with you 🙂 I think, in the last 4 years I’ve really been trying to cherish every moment because I don’t know when it will be my last. I’m grateful for my health, my family, my friends, and every single moment that God allows – even the tough times.
    Thank you for sharing!

This reminds me of living with no regrets. I don’t want to miss one God opportunity or moment either. Praying He will make my heart sensitive to His voice and my feet willing to obey.

    Joyfully His,
