Unwrapping Jesus

I’ve been busy unwrapping the gift of Jesus this week. When I think of that babe, having just been born, laying in a manager, wrapped in swaddling clothes, I think of all of the rich love and goodness that envelops Him. And I take a moment to unwrap each one, taking in the goodness and allowing it to seep deep into my spirit. Here are just a few of the gifts I’ve been unwrapping this week.

“And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” (Luke 2:12)

He is wrapped up in light.

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Because He came, we have the ability to walk in the light. Even though we may be surrounded by circumstances that can appear cloudy and dark at times, He is the light of life. He calls us to walk in the light, as He is in the light.

Thank you Jesus, for coming, so that I can walk in the light.

He is wrapped up in truth.

So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32)

Jesus, the Living Word, came to earth to bring truth to our hearts. He promises that if we abide in His Word, we will know truth and the truth will set us free.

Thank you, Jesus, for setting me free by the truth of Your Word.

He is wrapped up in love.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

For God so loved…..that He gave. What kind of love is this? What kind of love would move the heart of the God of the universe to come down to earth, taking on human flesh, leaving the security of His Father’s kingdom behind. When I think of His love, it overwhelms me every time.

Jesus, thank you for coming. Thank you God for loving me so much that you would do this for me.

I pray that you are overwhelmed by the light of His truth and love this Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

Barbie, this is beautiful! One of the greatest joys of my life has been to intentionally celebrate the Season of Advent, and to finally realize the magnitude of this season, God’s love for us, the responsibility with which the baby was born has been truly overwhelming. I have prayed in thanksgiving with all my heart, I have reflected, but above all I have cried with joy because I finally get it. I finally feel the overwhelming Love of God. I know I am gushing, but I am truly humbled and overjoyed by this experience.
