Telling Stories

“Give the story of it to your children, and let them give it to their children, and their children to another generation.†Joel 1:3

Do you tell stories?

I’m not talking about the “Once upon a time…†kind about princesses and dragons and faraway lands. I’m talking about the true stories from your life–the times that God has answered prayer, or changed your circumstances for the better, or healed sickness or pain.

The times His love has made a difference.

Because God never leaves the life of a person who turns to Him unchanged.

But how often do we tell these stories to others, especially our kids?

How many opportunities do we miss to share what God has done in our life simply because we don’t think about sharing? Or because we’re shy and unsure?

“…And that you may be able to give to your son and to your son’s son the story of my wonders in Egypt, and the signs which I have done among them; so that you may see that I am the Lord.†Exodus 10:2

Like it says in Exodus, it’s the times that God touches our lives that help us and others to see that He is real and that He cares.

There’s no theological argument that can out-power one person’s story of a life changed through the love of Christ. There’s no list of facts that can make a heart long for God’s touch like hearing about the hope and peace and incredible happiness that He gives.

God’s love isn’t about religion. It’s about relationship. And there’s no better way to understand that than through hearing the stories of how He impacts others.

So, go.

Tell your stories.

Tell them to your kids, your friends, your family.

Tell them to that stranger, even.

Share what God has done in your life.

And as you do, you’ll be passing faith and love to the next generation.

Thank you, Genny–that’s so well said. You encourage us to keep on blogging, telling our stories to whoever wants to listen.

So true! Revelation 12:11 declares, “They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.” Our testimonies are powerful — more than we know. What a great reminder to all of us to share, share, and share. What God has done for one, He will do for another. Bless you today!

    Love

I agree, it is very important to tell our children the testimonies the Lord has handed down to us through His Word and through the generations of Christianity.

The only thing better than hearing a great story is being part of one. I don’t want to live on yesterday’s God-story, but have a walk with Him that is so alive that daily I can share what the Lord is doing in my life.

    Great thoughts Genny!
