Exercise Woes!!

If you are like me, which hopefully you are not, exercise is one of the things that I often put on the back burner of my life. If I had a daily video of my life you might see me wake up in the morning, examine my face in the mirror, recognize that yes, I am getting older. Then I would go to the coffee maker and you would see a thought bubble come up above my head that wishes the coffee were somehow an IV that I could just have a constant stream of caffeine coursing through my veins. After the thought bubble burst into flames because that is not a possibility, the next thought bubble would pop up, this time pondering if I should exercise before I hop in the shower. The 12 Minute Video Workout is calling my name and I could start my day off drenched in sweat and feeling temporarily good about making a decision that would possibly help me live longer or at least just make me feel better for the day. I contemplate having to find my tennis shoes and Lord have mercy on my soul, socks!!! I would have to fast forward the video to the right place and get the equipment ready to begin my workout. All such difficult tasks!!

This is the sad state of my life that I have become so complacent about my work out and have reduced my total 15 minute work out to not even the back burner of my life, but to underneath the stove all together!!

In Amos, we see the Lord once again having to spank Israel and Judah. Through Amos the prophet, God issues a warning that they have become complacent in their ways. The definition of complacent is “showing smug or uncritical satisfaction with oneself or one’s achievements.” The Israelites were ok with the way that they were living. They were very wealthy, but they were not using their wealth for good, but for evil. They were oppressing the poor. “You drink wine by the bowlful and use the finest lotions, but you do not grieve over the ruin of Joseph.” There were living “high on the hog”, with no thoughts past themselves. They were ruining their lives and the lives of those around them.

What are the areas in your life that you have become complacent in? You think, “I am doing ok” and you feel a little pride well up inside of you about that area. You might check yourself in that area and make sure that you are doing everything the Lord has commanded you. You might be like me and are quite wealthy enough to have the opportunity to exercise each day with a TV and DVD. The Lord has given you all that you need and more in an area of your life and you make excuses as to why you cannot make good choices. God says, “Woe to the complacent.” I think I am going to go exercise now!!

Thank you Desiree for following Holy Spirit’s leading and writing this post. Exercise and diet are two areas where I constantly say, “I’ll do it tomorrow”. Now I find my health at risk. This is sin, because I know God has asked me to attend to these areas. Thank you for reminding me.

I’m going to strap on my Zumba belt right now and shake my tail feathers – right after I dust off the Wii. Guilty as charged.

Sigh. I saw the title of your post and KNEW I didn’t want to read it…but I did want to read it…but I didn’t want to read it. All because I know I need to exercise, but I have definitely NOT been exercising. (insert another big sigh)

Thing is, I do feel so much better when I exercise. And I do not have one single good excuse not to do it. I’m thinking “I don’t wanna” is a pretty poor excuse. 🙂

Thanks for this reminder. And for making me laugh about the Lord having to spank Israel and Judah. 🙂

Ouch! That hurt to read this because being complacent is not what I desire but often where I end up if I am not careful. Thank you for sharing!

Ladies, I think we should start an Exercise Accountability Group!! 🙂 We could give it a catchy name like the 5 Minute Work-out Queens! Because that is all that I will probably last. 🙂
