Believing in Promises

Have you thought about God’s promises lately?

I mean, really thought about them?

We read the Bible and listen to sermons at church—and both are full of the promises of God—but how often do we internalize these promises and make them our own? How often do we truly believe them?

And, if we did, what kind of impact would that have on our lives?

Take this promise, for example:

“For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you. Plans to give you a hope and a future.” –Jeremiah 29:11

If we believe that promise and have faith, all the uncertainties we might be facing right now, and any anxieties about our future, can be dissolved. Because God knows the plan for our lives. And He promises good things to come.

And what about this one:

“For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” –I Timothy 1:7

Do you let fear hold you back? Does fear keep you from living the life God planned for you? Take a minute to internalize this verse and make this promise your own. Rest in knowing that God’s plan for you is not a plan filled with fear.

And what about:

“Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary. –Isaiah 40:31

If you feel like you’ve been waiting on God forever, or if you are just plain tired, believe this promise and be energized. God’s answers will come. Wait upon Him and you will rise up. He promises it.

These verses—these promises—while powerful and inspiring, can’t change our hearts and our lives like God intended them to unless we have faith and believe them. Unless we make these promises our own.

So what about you? Are you believing God’s promises right now? Which one of His promises has impacted your life the most?
