I was One of Those Moms

It’s true! I was the mom who didn’t want to let her children out of her sight. They needed me didn’t they? It was my job to keep them safe, cared for, and nurtured. What can I say, I got an extra dose of the mom gene.

I am happy to tell you that they are grown and that they survived this parent who was always afraid.

Did you know that the phrase “Don’t be afraid,” is in the Bible 366 times? That’s more than one for each and everyday of the year.

We are not only supposed to reach beyond our fears for our own well-being, but we are to put them aside for our children.

Now, I’m not an advocate for letting them play in traffic. However, I have learned to trust God’s love not only for me but for my children and grandchildren as well.

She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future. When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness. She carefully watches everything in her household and suffers nothing from laziness. Proverbs 31:25-27 (NLT)

I have learned the hard way that fear doesn’t prevent. I’ve lived through some difficult realities, but God has never failed me. I have learned to trust the words:

“This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 (NLT)

If you are “one of those moms” will you join me in praying for strength and courage to trust that God is with you, He loves you, He loves your children, and He will never leave you nor forsake you. He is who He says He is. You can trust Him.

Father, give us courage and strength. Please forgive us for doubting Your loving presence. You have not promised that the road ahead will be perfect or easy, but you have promised to be with us. In and with You we can laugh without fear of the future. Help us to trust Your love, Your ability to know what is best, and Your ability to carry it out even at those times when the world seems like a very scary place. Help us. Be with us. Provide in us all that we need to live in faith. Thank you Lord. Amen.

Thank you so much for sharing. My daughter is at church camp all week for the first time. I’m a wreck. They weren’t even allowed phones. I’m having to constantly remind myself that she is the Lords child to begin with. He is the one that protects her each day, whether I’m there or not. Again, thank you. This gave me some peace.

Hi L. I am so glad you left a comment. I have definitely been there. You are playing all of the right tapes in your mind. Taking those thoughts of fear captive and replacing them with the assurance of God’s love and care for you and your daughter. I’ll bet you can’t wait to hear all of her fun stories. Our youngest loved going to camp. They were great times for her. God’s blessings to you! I will be praying for peace for you and a wonderful week filled with God’s love for her.

I love that “Don’t be afraid” is in the Bible 366 times!

I am definitely a mom who tends to lean towards the overprotective side! Thanks so much for this reminder that we can completely trust the Lord with our children. This momma definitely needs a reminder to RELAX from time to time. 🙂

    Blessings,
    K

I am definately a bit on the overprotective side. I remember when my first child got their driver’s license. I was worried sick. Now she is 20 and I can’t go to sleep until she’s safely home in bed. There are definately areas where I need to trust the Lord more in the area of parenting.
