Though one may be overpowered,
two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
I’ve been blessed in my life to have many different girlfriends. The women come from different backgrounds, ages, and stages of life and that just fascinates me. I have always surrounded myself with this beautifully eclectic group of ladies and have learned so much from them on my journey through life.
Unfortunately, I never really took the time to appreciate what these women, who are like a colorful cord of sisters, have meant to me… until recently. I’m not sure if it is because I am getting older or just wising up to how precious the gift of girlfriends really are to my life.
Let’s face it,
friendships can be messy.
They don’t always work out.
Expectations,
on both sides,
are often left unmet, and
sometimes we get hurt.
I’ve been there. Some of my deepest pains and struggles have been from friends. On the flip side, some of my greatest blessings and celebrations have come from my girlfriends. I can tell you this though, when the storms start to hit, and you know they will, how much sweeter is it to have women whom you love, trust, and respect by your side.
Yes, you have to put yourself out there a bit, and yes, there is a chance that you could get hurt, but it is so worth it when you have girlfriends there to laugh with you, cry with you and just sit with you when things start to get overwhelming.
Are they perfect? No
Do they have all the answers? No
Is it easier to journey through the hard times with your girlfriends by your side? Absolutely yes!
We’re meant to live our lives in community with other believers. It is so much sweeter to have someone standing there with you, back to back, in tough times, good times, pretty much all the time.
