God’s Gift of Grace

MP900440274[1]Imagine giving a gift and having it refused.

Maybe it’s happened to you like it’s happened to me.

It was a small gift—nothing major, but something I thought would be enjoyed. The response I received was No thank you; I don’t have anything for you.

My gift was refused because it couldn’t be earned or reciprocated. And it hurt.

I wonder if that’s how God feels when we refuse His gift of grace.

Grace…God’s free and unmerited favor toward sinful humanity (NLT Study Bible, Tyndale)

God’s love and forgiveness wrapped up in His gift of grace.

It can’t be earned and can never be reciprocated.

We don’t deserve it, yet, He offers it freely.

And we struggle with that—because there are only two choices.

We can reject His grace like an unwanted gift.

Or, we can not only accept it, but embrace it, and let Him shower us in His grace.

God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. Ephesians 2:8-9 NLT

Grace seems to be the word to me lately. There’s nothing we can do to earn our salvation. How thankful I am that I am redeemed and sanctified. Now I need to live in that freedom as I abide in Him.

I love Liz. She was our keynote speaker one year at my church. What a genuine grace filled person she is. I’ll have to check out this one. I’m already participating in another online Bible study though.

    Blessings and love,
    Debbie

      Hi Debbie,
I heard Liz speak at a conference last fall and just loved her–her honesty, transparency, and her humor! Thanks for your comment!

      God bless,
      Laura

Oh yes, I know that feeling of rejection well. My own mother rejected a gift from my husband and I a few years ago. Even went to the extent of paying postage to mail it back to us. I was crushed. This book looks pretty good. 🙂

      Hi Rosann,
Thank you for sharing your experience, and I’m sorry you had to go through it. From my own experience, it’s hard to want to extend grace after having been rejected, but I’m working on it. How can I not extend grace, when God continues to shower me with His grace, despite my daily failings? But being human, that fear of getting hurt again sure is a hard one to ignore.
      Blessings to you,
      Laura
