Celebrate

I read recently in Ladies Home Journal, that “the happiest husbands and wives were those who made the biggest deal out of good things that happened to them.” The lesson in this is: “it’s not enough that your spouse knows that you’re proud of his/her accomplishments. Making a fuss over the small, good things that happen every day can boost the health of your marriage.”

I completely agree! My dear husband and I have been together a little over forty years. (Yes, we were three and a half when we began dating. LOL) We love to rejoice over each other’s successes. It doesn’t take much to make an event a celebration. It can be as simple as making our favorite dinner, baking a dessert we love, going out for ice cream, writing a quick note of love or congratulations, or taking a photo to remind us of a special day.

Children enjoy getting in on the fun, too. They can draw a picture or leave a voice mail message. One of my favorites is to get everyone together to do a “happy dance!” And don’t forget to celebrate your children’s accomplishments as well. Celebrating bonds families together with positive memories, and each accomplishment celebrated as a blessing glorifies God.

They speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty—
and I will meditate on your wonderful works.
They tell of the power of your awesome works—
and I will proclaim your great deeds.
They celebrate your abundant goodness
and joyfully sing of your righteousness.
Psalm 145:5-7

Each day is a reason to celebrate something! It has been more than 965 days since the Lord spared my husband’s life. He had a life threatening illness that required extremely risky surgery. Sharing another day together gives us reason enough to celebrate. I tell him often, “Thanks for livin’.”

Our very lives are a gift from God. A reason to celebrate. It is easy to get caught up in our routines and forget to notice and celebrate our blessings.

O my soul, bless God. From head to toe, I’ll bless his holy name!
O my soul, bless God, don’t forget a single blessing! Psalm 103:1-2

What blessing does your family need to celebrate today?

Thank you so much for this! I enjoy these little devotionals and look forward to the news ones!

This is really what I needed to hear. My husband and I are currently in an uncomfortable situation. Nothing too terrible but it is easy for me to start to feel down. This reminded me that I need to celebrate the joys in our life no matter how small or big. Whether it is my 2 year old son giving me a hug and a kiss or my husband getting a promotion at work. God is good and we are blessed because we are alive in Him! Thanks!
