His Love Endures Forever

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. His loves endures forever. Psalm 136:1

Each of the twenty six verses in Psalm 136 ends with the words, “His love endures forever.” It’s hard to wrap our brains around forever. The dictionary defines forever as: through eternity. Always!

What things can you think of that last forever?

I went looking for quotes on the topic of “forever” and discovered yet again why it’s hard for us to understand this word.

  • “Everything is temporary. Everything is bound to end.” ~Keren Ann
  • “This too shall pass.” ~Author Unknown
  • “This is just a phase.” ~Author Unknown
  • “Everything in life is temporary because everything changes! That’s why it takes great courage to love, knowing it might end anytime… But having the faith, it will last forever!” ~Author Unknown

The Bible is the best source to help us understand forever. I found 290 uses of the word forever in the NIV translation of the Bible. Below are just a few of the things I learned:

  • Psalm 136 – God’s love is forever.
  • Psalm 119:89 – God’s Word is forever.
  • John 3:16 – Life is forever through faith in Jesus.

God pours His everlasting love over us, His eternal Word helps us grow in understanding, and by the power of the Holy Spirit through faith in our Savior, Jesus, our understanding grows and we get a glimpse of forever.

I used to teach my students this phrase to remember how much God loves them . . . “God’s love is forever, and ever, and ever and ALWAYS!”

May you rest in the blessed embrace by His forever love.

We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know Him who is true. And we are in Him who is true—even in His Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. 1 John 5:20

This is such an amazing, anchoring promise when we actually receive it deeply into our spirits. It can carry us through the toughest of storms. Another way to put it is “where can I go from Your Spirit?”
    Thanks, great post!

Thanks Val, This promise has been a needed anchor this week, as a very dear friend went home to our Savior quite suddenly. Knowing His faithful love has been a huge source of comfort and strength. Thanks for stopping by and leaving your kind words of encouragement. Blessings!!
