Rest In The Love Of God

I laid there beside him, just watching him sleep, so peacefully and at ease. A few minutes before he was restless and anxious. He couldn’t sleep and called for me in the night. I quietly responded to his call, my mother’s heart softened to his little disheartened cries.

With in seconds of my presence his anxieties melted away and he was immediately able to rest. As I watched him so overwhelmed by my love for him, a quiet thought occurred to me, a picture, if I love this child so intensely… how much more does my Heavenly Father love me?

This is something I have struggled with for years, believing that He loves me, that He could love me. Most of my life has been spent trying to earn His love out of fear. I am His child and He loves me despite all my failures and all my insecurities.

Life can be dark and weigh heavy on our hearts and they can grow weary loosing sight of His ever present love for us, just like my son. In the dark of the night, in his fears and anxieties he was restless as are we when we are not resting in the simple and profound presence of Gods love. God is love, where He is there is fullness of joy and rest for the weary heart.

I don’t know what you are facing in your messy-beautiful life, full of grace, but I do know that you are dearly and deeply loved. Let that soak in, go lay with one of your babies and just watch them sleep, letting the love you have for them sink in deep and imagine… He loves you more.

“So we have come to know and believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God and God abides in him.” 1 John 4:16

This is my prayer for us, that we will come to know and believe the love God has for us. So, rest your heart in the presence of His love for you today.

AMEN Kelli! I too struggle with understanding His love for me. Praying He will overwhelm us both with His love!

Aw, Kelli, what a beautiful analogy of God’s great love for us. Present, even in the darkness.

Amen. Great verse to meditate on. Our babies give us great insights into the love He has for us- our tiny teachers!

    Welcome Kelli!
I had a similar experience when my daughter was a baby. Watching her sleep and knowing how much I loved her, I was overwhelmed thinking about the depth of God’s love for me.
    God Bless,
