Someone to Listen

by Laura

As a mom, I wish I could fix all of the issues my daughter has to face.

The dramas of growing up and fitting in.

Learning to control her emotions and behavior.

Figuring out how to live in this sinful world.

But even if I could solve everything, I know it wouldn’t be what’s best for her because there are lessons to be learned.

What I can do is be there for her.

And sometimes, that’s what she needs most—someone to listen and let her know her feelings are valid.

She wants to be heard. She wants to know I’m there for her no matter what.

I can understand that—I want that too.

I want someone…

Who will listen without judging me.

Who will understand and not get impatient with me.

Who will let me cry on His shoulder for as long as I need.

I want Jesus.

I need Jesus.

God never said life would be easy, but that through Jesus, we would have peace.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 NIV

Jesus knows what it’s like to live this side of heaven.

Because He experienced the hurt, rejection, and heartache of this world, He understands when we cry out to Him.

He listens…for as long as I will talk to Him.

I pour out my complaints before him and tell him all my troubles. Psalm 142:2 NLT

He walks with me through whatever situation I am facing, so I don’t have to go through it alone.

He guides me and strengthens me to keep going.

And always, I find comfort.

As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you…. Isaiah 66:13a NIV

Growing up is hard. So is being an adult.

I want to be there for my daughter to listen and comfort her, for as long as she will let me.

But whether I’m there or not, there is One who will never leave her.

And He won’t leave us either.

God is the same—yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

And He will be there to listen, to guide, and to comfort.

Always and Forever.

For as long as we will let Him.

That was a much needed reminder that God is always with us – even when we feel alone. I love that verse from Isaiah 66:13. It is such a comfort.
