On Gratitude : Sifting Through the Mess, Getting the Message

message2

Let us be grateful to the people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.”
― Marcel Proust

As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them. – John F. Kennedy

Every time you cross my mind, I break out in exclamations of thanks to God. Each exclamation is a trigger to prayer. I find myself praying for you with a glad heart. – Philippians 1 : 3-4 The Message

Wisdom waits. In my twenties, expressions of gratitude were measured by feelings of satisfaction with my life and goals.

Get Ready for Summer and Refresh Your Mom-i-tude

The end of this school year has screamed by like a Jet Ski stuck at full throttle. Sucked under the wake of a busy schedule, I’m ready to get off this ride and slow down. I’m feeling frazzled and need to refresh my mom-i-tude so I can enjoy this summer with my family.

Enjoy today.

Juggling schedules and sports, homework and the countless things that mom’s do in a day, it’s easy to feel exhausted by the end of the school year. When busyness crescendos into chaos, frantic moms can feel a little nuts. I’ve been there, and I’ve had days when I was camped out next to crazy.

Thankful for Family

Stilwell Family Thanksiving 2012

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church
and gave himself up for her…

~Ephesians 5:25 (NIV)

I’m thankful for FAMILY:

1. Steve, my wonderful husband of 26 years. We’re actually on a little getaway today!

2. Scott and Sarah, my awesome children. I won’t start bragging about them, but suffice it to say those two are BRAG-WORTHY!

3. Monica and Janet, my sweet sisters. And I’m grateful we live within 2 hours of each other!

4. Godly parents and in-laws, all of whom live in the same town with us.

5. Koinonia, our church Life Group. We’ve lived lots of life together, and we truly consider them family.

Social Media Responsibility

Active College StudentsI remember as a teenager having to program the VCR* for my parents. It was new and tricky for them, but came naturally for me.

Today, as a parent, I’m now on the other side with social media. It seems every day there is a new app for yet another way to keep in touch. I find it overwhelming, but for the teens, and even much younger kids, downloading and setting up profiles comes naturally.

Like it or not, life has changed, and to keep up and protect our kids, we need to be aware of what they are doing online.

How the Gifts of the Magi Simplified Our Christmas

Several years ago, I was inspired by my friend Mel,
@  Psycho with 6, to change our families gift giving traditions dramatically.

What?! Really?!

How do you get a family to change 20+ years of tradition without a major meltdown?

It was actually quite easy. Our children were grown and our grandchildren were young; so, it seemed like a perfect time for change. Now in its fourth year, this meaningful way of gifting has been embraced with even greater enthusiasm.

The Magi gave the Christ child gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Each represented a significant part of Jesus life and ministry:

  • Gold – a gift given to royalty.
