Renovator’s Delight

I can finally sit in my loungeroom and relax. I no longer see an unpainted ceiling, or half finished door, or cement floors, or light bulbs hanging out of the ceiling. I even have some pictures on the walls. If I try not to look down the hallway, I could nearly say that we have finished our renovations (inside at least).

We had to renovate our new place as it was lacking what some would consider necessities, such as doors, flooring and walls. We wanted to make it a more comfortable place to live in, to make it stronger and more durable, to make it more attractive, and enjoy the feeling of personal satisfaction at our work.

Maybe God has similar things in mind when he makes his changes in our lives. He wants to make us a place in which the Holy Spirit is able to live more comfortably,

“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?” 1 Corinthians 6:19 (NIV)

He wants to make us more durable so that we can stand the winds of adversity,

“Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.” Ephesians 6:13 (NIV)

He wants to make us more able to attract people to Christ,

“Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16 (NIV)

And He wants to be able to say of us,

“Well done, good and faithful servant!” Matthew 25:23 (NIV)

You couldn’t tell from the road what our house looked like inside before we bought it, and you can’t tell from looking at the outside of our house what we have done inside. Its only by coming and spending time with us that we can show you what we have done and what still needs to be worked on.

And its only by spending time with your Maker that you will be able to see what He is doing in your life. Try it and see. Grab your Bible and prayer journal and get to work.

Join Him where He is working. Sometimes you will find Him moving walls and sometimes he is adding the finishing touches. And at the end, may you hear him say those words, “Well done, good and faithful servant!”
