Robes of Strength

This last week has slipped away from me. The days race by…faster and faster and faster. As hard as I try to utilize every moment of time, I still find myself short, wishing for just a little more time to cram everything in.

What is it about time? How can I need more time? The Lord gives us 24 hours of time every day. Not a minute more, not a minute less. And yet, here I am, frazzled and yearning for more time to complete everything.

Strength and dignity are her clothing,

and she laughs at the time to come.

Proverbs 31:25 (NIV)

Laughs at the time to come? When do I laugh when I ponder my week ahead? All too often, as I look at the various schedules and duties penciled on my calendar overwhelm fills my spirit. When overwhelm reigns, then strength and dignity simply cannot be worn. So where do I, and you, adopt and wear strength and dignity?

For the last week, as my time raced by, I thought about time. I recorded my time and realized the importance of establishing a rightly-ordered hierarchy of time.

Living under the pressures of an over-scheduled life will not promote a calm and nurturing family life. Instead of strength, intense busyness tires and robs of laughter and joy.

Can I challenge you to look at your schedule, your use of time, especially with Christmas almost here? So often we move at such a hyper pace, that our robes are not of strength, but rather of slavery.

Remember, the Lord blessed us each with 24 hours each day. How are you going to use your 24 hour gift of today for? What robe will you clothe yourself with? May the robes of strength and dignity be your desired choice today, and may you find time for true laughter and peace.

What a great post Rachel. I have been wishing I had more time to accomplish everything I have to do. But the more I think about it, I simply need to look at what I am doing and ask the Lord to help me schedule my day. I want to be clothed with strength!

Beautifully written Rachel. I too want to make wise time choices as I am clothed with the strength of the Lord.

You are so right. An over-stuffed, over-scheduled life does NOT lead to joy and laughter. And I love how you phrased it, that instead of being in robes of strength we end up in robes of slavery.

This is defintiely the perfect time for a reminder to slow down and make sure we are doing what the LORD has planned for us each day. When I toss in lots of extra stuff, I end up being one super cranky momma. And that is not what I want.

    Thanks, Rachel! Blessings, K

thanks, everyone — I think I needed my own reminder today. It’s so easy to race around and forget to really focus, to rest, and to breathe.

    Blessings to you all!

For the first time ever, I decided to simplify our family’s holiday celebration. Holiday paper plates, store bought cakes and pies, and a few less gifts to wrap. With all my extra free time, we were able to play games as a family and talk till the wee hours. Ane not one person complained about my “simplification.” Nice!
