Sin in My Shoe

A while back, I was jogging walking fast in my neighborhood. I love to spend time just taking in the beauty of the morning, getting my mind right, and boosting my metabolism a little for the day. While I was “walking fast,” 🙂 I got something trapped in my shoe. Everything in me wanted to ignore it and keep moving, but I absolutely could not go another step. Giving up, I took my shoe off, shook it out and listened for the rude little interruption to fall out. I did not see anything come out, but whatever it was did come out and I was able to resume my jog.

But that little mass of interruption totally made me lose my marathoner stride. 🙂

While I would have loved to ignore it, there was no way I could move on. Ladies and gentlemen, that little mass situated in my shoe was the visible expression of sin in our lives. While we would love to advance, we simply cannot keep moving forward in life with “Sin in our Shoe”.

So what is sin? Sin is anything in your life that separates us from an intimate relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ and our Loving Father. Sin is no respecter of persons. Romans 3:23 states that we all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. We are born sinners (sin was in your baby shoes!) and even after Jesus comes into your life we still like to go back to our old ways. It is our “sin nature.” Sin will not just go away on its own. We have to take the time to stop , take off our figurative shoe, and shake it out. Sometimes, the mass of interruption is small and sometimes it is huge. Either way, even when you can’t hear it fall out, it still stops you in your tracks. There is no moving on with sin. You can try to ignore it, but it is not going to go away. It will keep coming back up.

Here are some things you can do to shake the sin out of your proverbial shoe. Get on your knees and confess what sin is separating you from that rich life in Christ that you desire. You probably knew as soon as you started reading this devotional what sin was pressing on your heart. Go ahead, get it out. Drop down on your knees and get right with Jesus.

He loves you so much.

He is so faithful to forgive you day after day, hour by hour, and minute by minute.

He desires to be so close you that you can feel Him right next to you. If your sin involves someone else, the Bible instructs us in Matthew 5:22-24

“if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift.

It’s pretty simple, but not easy. You are going to have to stop whatever you are doing. That is hard enough! Then you are going to have to swallow your pride. Wow, now I am probably “all up in your business.” I promise you, I am really speaking to myself here. Humility does not run in my family line. 🙂

May God bless you immensely as you shake all of that incredibly annoying, painful, unproductive sin out of your shoe.

Great post and reminder to always be mindful and SEARCH for sin in our lives… we can become “used” to it if we are not careful, and then it hurts even more to rip it out!

Great post! Sometimes we choose to “put up with it”, until we become dulled to the pain, like it’s not there. Great reminder to always be on our guard.

Great thoughts and although I think I’m jogging along fine at the moment, I’m going to pause for some self examination!

Thank you very much. That is so true. We will take care of the sin in our lives. Starting with getting married.

    Love you and family
