Just As I Am

recoveringchurchlady.com

“Just as I am…” If you grew up in the kind of church that ended almost every service with an invitation to “come forward” to invite Jesus into your heart, you know this song. You could hum it along with me right now couldn’t you?

The song was about how much God loved you…
just as you were…
warts and all.

He loved you before you started reading the Bible every morning. He loved you before you found a church to go to every Sunday. He loved you before you joined that Women’s Bible Study on Wednesdays. He loved you before you completed the New Believer’s Class. God loved you before you promised to witness to all of your neighbors.

He loved you as is.

He still loves you as is.

He is not waiting for you to get it right. He is not waiting for you to finish reading through the Bible in a year. He is not waiting until you can lead the Women’s Bible Study on Wednesdays. He is not waiting for you to memorize 30 scriptures a month. He is not waiting for you to go on a short-term mission’s trip. He is not waiting for you to lose thirty pounds. He is not waiting for you to stop yelling at your kids.

God is not waiting for the new improved you.
God does not love the potential you.
He loves the today-you.

He loves the messy-kitchen-you. He loves the late-for-the-school bus-again-you.
He loves the forgot-it-was-Picture Day-you. He loves the dusty-Bible-you. He loves the frozen-pizza-for-dinner-you. He even loves the slept-in-on-Sunday-you.

God loves you just as you are today…this hour…and this minute. If He loved you before you even loved Him, why are you working so hard to get Him to love you now?

God loves you today…
Just as you are.
Take a breath and believe it.
God loves you.
Just as you are.

I am saved, but still a sinner and He still loves me , that’s so rich a grace!

I love reminders of God’s enduring love. I used to love to hear Elisabeth Elliot say at the beginning of her radio show every day, “You are loved with an everlasting love.” from Jeremiah 31:3. She said it every day because we all need to hear it over and over!

Thank you for being that reminding voice today.

We all need to hear it again and again. Not sure why it is so hard to believe that He already loves us. Maybe because we are usually not too crazy about ourselves.

Oh Susie, I love this so much…and I needed to hear this too, right now, just as I am…without one plea! Jesus LOVES me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so! Thank you for this timely reminder. Sometimes we forget because we get so inundated with the “must dos and don’ts” of life, and we get overwhelmed with our own inadequacies. But Jesus loves us just the way we are. Thank you. I can breathe again!

Oh my goodness, this is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoo good. This right here is the message that can never stop being proclaimed. It sets people free. He died so we would know. KNOW, and BELIEVE this one thing…and share it. YES!!!!
