The Gift of Rest is a Sound Mind

2 timothy 1 7

Parenting has the tendency to threaten our peace with fear, doesn’t it?

There are several ways the enemy can plant seeds of fear into our head, threatening to sink deep into our heart & destroy the peace that Jesus provides.

  • Fear of Failure as a Parent/Step Parent
  • Fear that our child(ren) will reject Jesus
  • Fear that our finances will collapse
  • Fear that our child(ren) will get sick or hurt
  • Fear that we’ll damage our children somehow

Fear is ugly

The Holy Spirit brings 2 Timothy 1:7 to mind, and two words jump out at me:

Sound Mind

I’ve been reading through Bonnie Gray’s book Finding Spiritual Whitespace, as well as blogging my way through my personal Journey to Rest The entire focus of Bonnie’s book is REST, so when I read the words, “sound mind,” in 2 Timothy 1:7, I was reminded of just how much peace I gain from resting alone, reading the Word and praying. My soul finds quiet rest with Jesus and as a result I walk away with a sound mind!

Releasing my fears to Jesus and laying them unreservedly at His feet, empowers me.
His Love engulfs my fearful heart & His peace envelops me, giving me a sound, rested mind.

In a world filled with plenty of things to be fearful of, I choose to cling to the promise that when I choose REST over FEAR, Jesus becomes all I need, and the gift He gives is a SOUND MIND.

So friend, regardless of the fears that threaten our peace as Women, Wives, Moms, Step Mamas, Daughters, Sisters or Friends, we are called to REST in Jesus; to lay our fears aside & receive His peace amidst the storm. He & only He, speaks to our storm, “Peace, Be Still”

My prayer for you today is that you will take a few minutes to REST in Jesus and enjoy the gift of a sound mind, as you embrace His power and love for whatever obstacle comes your way!

thank you. I needed this reminder that it is ok to stop and rest, because it will help me overcome the fears and anxieties that have been working on my heart and mind. I can rest and focus on God’s love, grace, provision and faithfulness and His power at work in and through me. Blessings this day!

Beautiful reminder, Satin! Bonnie’s book is a journey worth taking. Maybe even more than once…or VERY slowly.
