Refuge

As a Highly Sensitive Person and an introvert, I relish the sanctuary of my home. This physical refuge allows me the time and space needed to recharge and keep from becoming overwhelmed.

But because we’re also meant to live in fellowship with one another (Hebrews 10:24-25), I also seek the safety of some close relationships from my spouse and kids to a few friends. Those relationships provide a protection for my spirit as we live life together, struggling to victory this side of Heaven.

As much as I trust these places and people of sanctuary and refuge in my life, Psalm 62:8 tells me God is my sanctuary.

Psalm 62

As my sanctuary, I can depend on God in every circumstance. His wisdom and goodness meet my every need.

As my perfect place of refuge, God will guide me in doubt, protect me in danger, supply me in want, and strengthen me for every good word and work.

As my source of relief and escape, I can pour out all that is within me into His listening ear. My grievances, desires and fears lay safely at His feet.

My home sometimes fails to shelter me from life’s storms. My relationships often let danger or trouble into my life. But my God provides unyielding and impenetrable refuge from all that can harm my soul.

God is definitely my refuge! When things are difficult, He is who I run to for He never lets me down! He always has time for me and He’ll never reject me. That confidence comes through experience of handling things with Him…and also, trying to without Him. With Him always wins!

The confidence from having God as your refuge is truly tremendous. There is always victory within the struggle with God as your protection.

Gracious, Kari. There are some serious storm clouds swirling in my life right now. The only thing that keeps me sane is the knowledge that God holds it all in His hands. It’s good to lay down each night knowing that He’s working all things together for good. It gives me confidence for the next day.
