The Gift of the Living Word

Bible

The binding creeks as I open wide. Its golden edges have worn in color, but still glisten in the rising light. And I breathe in deep while opening my heart to receive His whispers through the margins.

For the word of God is alive and active.
Sharper than any double-edged sword,
it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit,
joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12

It took years for me to truly discover the validity of this verse. That His Word written thousands of years ago can still resonate loudly in my soul today. That this living God I serve can whisper fresh, relevant promises to me when I invite the verses in and let them percolate.

And today I’d love to share with you the latest five gifts of promises I’ve clung to lately:

  • No one. Not one. Can rob me of my joy (John 16:22)

Thank You, Father, for thinking of me so many years ago and knowing I would need to read Your breath. Your mercies are truly new. every. morning. Praise Your name, Abba…

How about you, friend? What verse/promise/whisper from the Word have you clung to lately? Let’s share in comments and give thanks together!

Nikki, beautiful post! Lately my cling to verse has been from Jeremiah 29:11 — “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Knowing these words were written for me and many more, brings me great comfort in the tumultuous days we’re living in right now. Wars raging, innocents being killed, too many homeless, hungry and out of work. And yet God knows the plans for each one and He won’t let us falter or fall. Breathing in and out as I type these words — I feel the words flowing through my body. Oh, Nikki, this has been special time with you.

Beautiful, Nikki. His word is truly such a gift. There have been so many verses I’ve been clinging to lately…verses on how He is with us; the reminders to not be afraid and to trust in Him. My husband is now gone for the next 10 months and it’s God word that continually brings me the comfort I need.
Thank you for this beautiful post that reminds us all how living and breathing His word is.
    Many blessings,
    Beth
