When You Need Some Perspective

IMG_4695

I look down at my “to do” list and it is daunting. Managing a family of 7, partnering with my husband in ministry, and the trials of normal life makes it seem that the “to do” list gets longer as the day goes on instead of shorter. I get caught up in running too and fro in the tyranny of the urgent. I easily lose perspective on what is important – what is eternal – in my continual strife to “keep up.”

Do you find yourself feeling that way? Do you find the demands of life so pressing that it is hard to pull back and see the larger picture? Do you get so caught up in the present moment that it is hard to have perspective of what is truly important?

I know I do.

But once in a while, when I have the grace of God to really have eyes to see with clarity, I can have perspective on my busy exhausting days. What gives me perspective? It may seem odd to some, but I get a perspective shift when I think on the worship that is taking place in heaven at this very moment.

Have you ever stopped to think about the unending worship in heaven?

Like right now, while you are sitting at your computer or on your smart phone reading this post, there is worship going on in heaven. While you are scurrying about trying to keep up with the demands of the day, there are created beings singing praises to God and to Jesus… and they never stop. Later today when you are making dinner and washing the dishes, they are still singing songs of worship and adoration. Tonight while you are sleeping, they will not have stopped singing about His worth. Tomorrow morning when you wake up and stumble into the kitchen to brew that cup of coffee, they haven’t taken a coffee break from their unceasing praise and they are more energized to keep singing than when they started.

You may ask me why this realization gives me perspective on my overwhelming “to do” list and all that clamors for my attention and time?

You see, these angels and living creatures who worship without stopping have never experienced the mercy of God when they knew they didn’t deserve it. But I have.

They have never had God bring unexpected financial provision when they didn’t know how they would pay the bills. But I have.

They have never seen His hand of protection keeping them from calamity. But I have.

They have never had the joy of hearing Him whisper to their hearts during a good devotional time or speak through another person the secrets of their hearts that they whispered to God alone just so they know He hears them. But I have.

They didn’t have Jesus die a gruesome death for their sinful nature. But I have.

And yet they never stop worshiping Him –

simply. because. He. is. worthy.

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty, who was and who is and who is to come. Revelation 4:8

Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created. Revelation 4:11

I have so many reasons to give Him worship throughout my busy days. When I feel inadequate to complete the tasks before me, I can give Him praise because He is more than enough and His strength is made perfect in my weakness. When I am making dinner I can worship because He created all things and provided for my family to eat. When I am driving in the car I can adore Him because I see witness of Him in the creation around me and I know He will fully redeem it one day. When I am going to bed at night I can whisper words of thanks and praise because He gives me breath and is the One who wakes me in the morning.

Life may be busy and overwhelming at times, but when I remember that He is continually worshiped in heaven right now because of His great worth, it puts so much in perspective. No matter what you or I face today, He is more than enough and He is deserving of our complete adoration and praise simply because of who He is. Let us stop right now and worship this God who is more than enough for whatever we face today.

Charis, This is beautiful! Praise is always happening whether we are participating or not. The rocks cry out His praises. He is worthy, and today I will join in praising His holy name. Thanks for this wonderful reminder.

What a great perspective, Charis. I get busy! I have 5 boys, too. Busy isn’t bad, unless we don’t have time to worship.

So good, oh so good. My heart needed this one. Even as I sit here with fever and chills and wonder why, He is worthy of my worship! Blessings!

Wow!!! So needed to hear this. It’s so easy to lose this perspective if we’re not careful. I was so happy to have read this great reminder. Blessings. xx
