As You Wish

Are you a fan of Buttercup and Westley?

My favorite part of The Princess Bride occurs near the beginning.

As you wish.

“As you wish” = “I love you.”

Do you ever question someone’s love when they continue to repeat behaviors that disappoint you or hurt your feelings?

As you wish really is a beautiful way to say, “I love you.”

Jesus spoke to His followers and to us about the priority of love when it comes to obedience.

Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.” Mark 12:29-31

Jesus did more than talk about love.

He lived love, and by example showed us how we can live love, too.

1. He spoke the truth. John 18:37
2. He forgave. Luke 23:34
3. He had compassion. Matthew 9:36
4. He prayed. John 17
5. He obeyed….

“Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” Luke 22:42

Your will be done. = As you wish. = I love you.

Father, Please give us all we need to love like Jesus. Increase our faith. Give us strength. Remove all doubt and fear. Forgive our failures. Fill us with Your love that we may live each day honoring Your command to love. We love You, Lord. As you wish. Amen.

All my boys have loved this movie – and I think the next time they ask for me to wash a shirt or iron it, or make a grilled cheese – I will say, “As you wish” – and they will get it! You’ve made me smile – and given me a meaningful line to use with these boys of mine (and my husband:)

I’m so glad. It is a fun movie, and teaches us a wonderful way to say “I love you” to our families and to the Lord.
